Humorless oafs can ruin any social outing.  Yes, you know the ones – ordering anchovies on a pizza for a group of folks allergic to all forms of life aquatic. What promised to be an epic gabfest of exchanging texts with 20 of one’s closest friends in the same room turns into a night sending out texts with pictures of the gastronomical effrontery to one’s other 200 closest friends…what a bummer!

Now imagine what it’s like to be hungry, with yesterday’s stale piece of toast as the only available sustenance. Life can be a drag on so many fronts. But if you’re eating that stale piece of toast in the United States, your worries of the dangers of eating stale and possibly moldy toast should fade away as quickly as that wonderful dream you were jolted from by that annoying text of a pizza with anchovies from one of your 200 closest friends. How is such a feat possible? Because here in the United States that stale piece of toast is preserved with a cocktail of chemicals that provides singing profits for the corporations who provide the poisons.

Many a head has been broken by continuing to bang it against the brick wall of asking for common sense. How else to explain the millions of Americans who have simply given up on a life of fighting the producers of dung, a/k/a government “officials” and the agencies they impregnate with their version of Dante’s 15th circle of hell. (Dante couldn’t foresee life in these United States…thus the extended version).

toa-heftiba-288447Are there still ways to combat such sustenance insanity?  Asking such a question might get you the look of incredulity from your fellow travelers whose daily intake of sustainable food involves a box of (insert your favorite fast food selection here).  But there still are ways to find and partake of the blessings of real food.

Local farm co-ops or Community Supported Agriculture groups (CSA’s) can be found across the country.  Localharvest.org is a good place to start to locate a farm co-op or CSA in your area.

  1. A well rounded offering from hunger to the question inherent in mass supply to those who would profit without thoughts of – at what cost. I make a lovely half hour drive in the summer months to buy the best tomatoes ripened on the vine and sold by their very own farmer. It is a delight in every sense! The music as always was just right 😊

  2. Learning how to cook was the best thing I’ve done for my health outside of a gym. People keep asking me what recipes I use; I always tell them I just go to the store, see what is fresh, chop it up, and stir fry with whatever sauce will go well with it.
