There are several “entertaining” video’s one can find on YouTube with the subject being “Only in Russia”. A lot of choice offerings – from the bizarre to the more hysterical, e.g., curling with hollowed out cars.
As America continues its slide toward full tilt insanity, we thought we’d start documenting American insanity with our segment, “Only in America” (although that’s basically what this site does all the time).
Consider fresh droppings from a mensa at UCLA:
When it comes to global warming, Fido and Fluffy are part of the problem, a new study by UCLA indicates.
Most cat or dog lovers would say they can’t imagine living in a world without pets, but as the threat of global warming increases, environmentally conscious pet lovers may need to make some tough choices, according to the study.
More gems from the study:
Dogs and cats are responsible for 25 to 30 percent of the impacts of meat production in the United States, said Orkin. Compared to a plant-based diet, meat production “requires more energy, land and water and has greater environmental consequences in terms of erosion, pesticides and waste,” the study found.
And what goes in, must come out. In terms of waste, Okin noted, feeding pets also leads to about 5.1 million tons of feces every year, roughly equivalent to the total trash production of Massachusetts.
(Just as an aside…who actually weighs 5.1 million tons of feces?)
As unbelievable as it may sound, the study didn’t say how the state of Massachusetts, along with UCLA and university professors might also be contributing to environmental catastrophe. And even more shocking was that there was no mention of globe-trotting celebrities and former politicians whose energy consumption and “carbon footprint” should have killed off the planet years ago. They get a pass. Fido and Fluffy don’t.
But since it’s a “study”, coming out of one of America’s “prestige” universities, authored by some professor who revels in his own mind, then it must be true, right? Of course it’s true. It’s published in a journal.
But then there’s that pesky thorn in the paw.
A report by the “prestigious” National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, gives us a bit of a different viewpoint on how global warming data can be manipulated:
America’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration broke its own rules
The report claimed the pause in global warming never existed, but it was based on misleading, ‘unverified’ data.Or in other words:
How world leaders were duped into investing billions over manipulated global warming data. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-4192182/World-leaders-duped-manipulated-global-warming-data.html#ixzz4p1cv4r8q
Of course the data in Fido and Fluffy study is accurate – why would we doubt it. Especially since the well-rounded geography professor, Gregory S. Okin, who authored the “study”, likes dogs and cats:
“I like dogs and cats, and I’m definitely not recommending that people get rid of their pets or put them on a vegetarian diet, which would be unhealthy.”
Well, we’re proud of you for your generosity of heart telling us, the unwashed masses, that YOU don’t recommend that people get rid of their pets.
But surely, there were more pearls of wisdom the author left us with:
“Maybe we could all have little ponies,” he said, half-jokingly. “We’d all get more exercise taking them for walks, and they would also mow the lawn.”
Charming! A little levity to let us know even a esteemed professor can be as crazy as a hound.
Dog (and cat) owners will certainly understand the following: They are true to their nature. They love us, they accept us as we are. Without them, the world would be an uglier place…and that’s about what these “intellectualoids” would have for us. How long have we been blessed with our pets…thousands of years…and the earth is still around. Amazing!
Perhaps the professor needs a friend:
