In the “old” days, criminals were prosecuted and sentenced to various unpleasantries: community service of whacking weeds along the highways, house arrest where daily TV talk shows might be you’re only escape, even prison for some of the more ingeniously insidious “white-collar” crimes. But if you’re a “government official” in Flint, Michigan, fleecing the public takes on a new and special meaning – without penalty!
Although Flint — which blew wide open a year ago — is largely out of the headlines, the crisis is still unfolding. Residents are still unable to drink the water, leaving most families to rely on bottled water for everything from brushing their teeth to cooking and bathing.
In spite of multiple officials facing criminal charges, there hasn’t been a single conviction. The only people to face any consequences thus far, over the atrocity in Flint, are the citizens who are forced to pay for unusable water.
Not ONE city “official”, out of the multiple “officials” facing criminal charges over the debacle have been convicted. In fact, these Grade A assholes (there is no other description for them) are completely unapologetic for their crimes.
In spite of the EPA awarding a $100 million grant to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to fund drinking water infrastructure upgrades in Flint, city leaders say they need the money.
“We have to have revenue coming in, so we can’t give people revenue, I mean excuse me, give people water at the tap and not get revenue coming in to pay those bills,” said Al Mooney, City of Flint Treasury Department.
When absolutely depraved and warped individuals are put in charge of about anything, in-your-face corruption ensues.
“No professional politician is ever actually in favor of public economy. It is his implacable enemy, and he knows it. All professional politicians are dedicated wholeheartedly to waste and corruption. They are the enemies of every decent man.” ~ H.L. Mencken
