Always in the stealth of the evening, so to speak.
Late on Friday, the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which authorizes $611 billion for the military in 2017, was signed into law.
While this isn’t any surprising news, what is news is what was buried inside the bill. It’s always something with these shysters – slamming shit through right before the weekend, in this case a holiday weekend, with even more shit buried in the bill. But it’s cool – after all, these charlatans always have the interest of the American people first and foremost in their devious little minds, right?
(Editor’s note: We hear at the Asylum always find it a nice sensory extra to include appropriate music to what we might be reading. With apologies to Felix Mendelssohn, who at a scant age of 17 and a half years, wrote this absolutely brilliant piece of music, it does conjure up little creeps, devils, rats and other vermin running about, constantly stirring their pot of stench and vile, which certainly applies to these government tricksters.)

Also called the Countering Information Warfare Act of 2016 (S. 2692), when introduced in March by Sen. Rob Portman, the legislation represents a dramatic return to Cold War-era government propaganda battles. “These countries spend vast sums of money on advanced broadcast and digital media capabilities, targeted campaigns, funding of foreign political movements, and other efforts to influence key audiences and populations,” Portman explained, adding that while the U.S. spends a relatively small amount on its Voice of America, the Kremlin provides enormous funding for its news organization, RT.
Yes, indeedy! The Voice of America is the ONLY media outlet that either receives money or “information” from the government. We MUST combat the dastardly funding by the evil Kremlin for its news organization, RT. Let us create a department to dish out delicious propaganda, and for heavens’ sake, get ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, FOX, CNN and NPR to to help us spread it. What the hell have these media outlets been reporting for the last 50 years or so – facts? What in the world is going on here?
“Surprisingly,” Portman continued, “there is currently no single U.S. governmental agency or department charged with the national level development, integration and synchronization of whole-of-government strategies to counter foreign propaganda and disinformation.”
Huh? Right. Well then, where in the world has all the propaganda been coming from all these years? It’s all foreign?
“…With this bill now law, we are finally signaling that enough is enough; the United States will no longer sit on the sidelines. We are going to confront this threat head-on. I am confident that, with the help of this bipartisan bill, the disinformation and propaganda used against us, our allies, and our interests will fail.”
“Enough is enough”… we got it, tough guy.
This is some of the choicest shit we’ve heard – “the united states will no longer sit on the sidelines”. Yeah, that’s right. You poor, tormented vermin have been sitting on the sidelines this whole time, just trying to stay in the game…calmly letting any and all foreign governments dish out disinformation with never a tally back.
“The use of propaganda to undermine democracy has hit a new low. But now we are finally in a position to confront this threat head on and get out the truth. By building up independent, objective journalism in places like eastern Europe, we can start to fight back by exposing these fake narratives and empowering local communities to protect themselves,” said Murphy. “I’m proud that our bill was signed into law, and I look forward to working with Senator Portman to make sure these tools and new resources are effectively used to get out the truth.”
That’s right, bud. You and your stooges get busy and make sure these tools and “new” resources are used to for maximum propaganda value, err – we mean getting out the “truth”. Just keep doing it as you have been all along…only now, it’s official, with billions in funding, and it’s new and improved – a nice little ministry of truth you’re creating here – where, just as in the novel by Mr. George Orwell, 1984, newspapers, films, textbooks, TV programs, plays, novels and every conceivable kind of information, instruction, or entertainment, from a statue to a slogan, from a lyric poem to a biological treatise was created to dictate the thinking of its’ citizens and generate reality as they want it to be. Only with this reality we must live in, the government grants itself the authority to crack down on any media outlet that it believes to be “foreign propaganda”, which could mean anything they don’t approve of. We hear the bitching and moaning about the Russians, of Soviet-style controls – how is this any different? Well done, guys. Well done!
And not that we think it’s going to be much better in the future…
