Like the set of ‘Brandenburg’ concertos as a whole, this ‘Brandenburg’ Concerto no. 2 in F major, performed by the Netherlands Bach Society for All of Bach, is also a piece for several instruments: a quartet of trumpet, oboe, recorder and violin is accompanied by a string ensemble. The notes on paper would suggest that all four soloists are equal. And of course it all revolves around playing together and a measured balance. Yet one of the soloists is ‘more equal’ than the others, as the trumpet definitely attracts most attention. – Netherlands Bach Society
