Aeschylus & ‘Sheherazade’

“He who learns must suffer. And even in our sleep pain that cannot forget fails, drop by drop, upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God” – Aeschylus

Tonight’s musical offering:

Rimsky-Korsakov: Sheherazade Op. 35 – Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Elim Chan

Chinese conductor Elim Chan was the first ever female winner of the Donatella Flick Conduction Competition. In the Royal Concertgebouw of Amsterdam she leads the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra through Rimsky-Korsakov’s oriental fairytale ‘Sheherazade Op. 35’.

(A remarkable, powerful and beautiful performance – enhanced even further by enabling full screen and headphones on!)
