As a form of entertainment (I was either bored or seeking “enlightenment” – I’m not sure which) I was reading a fairly popular “intellectuoid” website the other day . The writers at this brainiac stomping ground are top shelf. They can “turn a sentence” so exquisitely that you’re almost more enchanted with their writing skills than the point they’re trying to make. Far better writers pen “brilliance” on their website than the writer you’re reading presently. The gist of the teenage spat was whether certain alt-left believers could (or should) talk and try to work with alt-right believers in order to fight the “deep state”. I wasn’t aware there were such “rules”. This is the level of insanity that has been reached in America – you can’t talk to anyone anymore. Accusations flared up like primo July 4th fireworks between writers from each political point of view. If one worked with this particular member from the opposing side – you shouldn’t, because they are a lunatic. I also wasn’t aware that lunacy was an exclusive product of one side or the other of the political spectrum. Evidently, I’m not enlightened on this point.
But lunacy isn’t the only condition which you can’t, under any circumstances, engage in conversation with someone with an opposing viewpoint. There are others.
The big enchilada when it comes to banned conversations with another from an opposing viewpoint, religion, group-think, or country is, of course, when that comrade is from Russia.
Be damned to a Siberian gulag (or American FEMA camp – after all, there are only about 800 of them in the United States) if you even think of talking to a Russian. They are spies, they are scum, they are murderers, they are out to destroy us – they are in our streets, sewer systems, in our computers, doing our yard work – they are everywhere and they are Beelzebub. Aside that none of the above is true, (except for the FEMA camps/prisons) – you are forbidden to talk to a Russian, lest you find out that like you, they are people, with the same hopes, fears and struggles everyone faces, to a greater or lesser degree.
Vladimir Putin and his band of cohorts are truly vile, according to our politicians and mainstream media jackals who carry the governments holy water of propaganda. If eyelashes flutter a bit too much while throwing a wayward glance in their direction, you are a treasonous scoundrel who should be disemboweled as soon as possible.
Yet a simple review of what Russian leaders are actually saying and attempting to do can easily be found on the internet. They simply are not the vile murderers that certain segments of the government and media would have you believe.
A young relative of mine, at least younger than me, lamented that one doesn’t know what to believe anymore. Indeed. But the truth is out there…it can just be a bit time-consuming to find. Sadly, most of it isn’t too pleasant.
But there are people of different viewpoints talking to one another here in the USA. And believe it or not, they’re not shouting, demeaning or pounding on each other:
As a citizen he (Robert Steele) has joined with Cynthia McKinney to create an educational movement (not a party), We the People – Unity for Integrity, being the unification of the populist right and left with people of color, Latinos, Sandernistas, and all small parties and Independents, to restore integrity to the US Government via an Election Reform Act of 2017 whose short title is the Integrity Act. Citizens of all countries are invited to visit #UNRIG: Summer of Peace (Beyond Trump & Sanders) and donate, receiving a certificate as a Founding Citizen. – phibetaiota.net
It’s at least a start.
If Americans don’t start talking in a civilized and respectful manner, and working together to overcome the corruption in our government, we stand a good chance of experiencing a country like this, or worse:
