Modern Day Wit and Wisdom

Having always appreciated the written word to denounce whatever one might want to denounce over the visual meme, video, social media post or inked masterpiece on the booksrestroom stall, we were amused, somewhat disgusted and then just laughed at the recent antics of an unfunny comedienne and co-host of a tediously goofy TV New Years’ Eve celebration broadcast, for her mocked beheading of the POTUS.

We get the message: she hates Trump, so what! We knew that. The line of Trump haters stretches from Boston to Los Angeles, through parts of Europe, certainly through the Middle East and maybe even to the southern most point of Madagascar. One more dimwitted dolt added to the list won’t change anything.

And lest conservative sidewinders think it hasn’t been done before; James Madison, John Tyler, Abraham Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, and Jimmy Carter were all burned in effigy during their presidencies.

And then these antics from Obama and Clinton fan, Ted Nugent and other Obama lovers:

Ted Nugent threatened to kill Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton during an onstage rant. Effigies of Obama were burned at a bar in Milwaukee; as well as hung from a tree at the University of Kentucky; a building in Plains, Ga.; and a noose in the front yard of a home in Moreno Valley, Calif.  theHill.com

There might be, on a rainy day in Vegas, some sort of artistry to these visual protestations, but for our buck, the written word can be far more cutting, if that is what one is after, but even better carries the point/protest home with a more lasting impression than faked visual offerings.

H. L. MenckenConsider one of the most brilliant of all American journalists, satirists and cultural critics, H.L. Mencken.

“Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.”
“Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.”
“No one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public.”

Sadly,  most people really don’t have a taste for studying history considering that it keeps repeating itself over and over again with the same type of idiot savants voted in or idolized into the pantheon’s of current day brilliance, quite like those idiots from yesteryears before who did their best to add to the ugliness of life and in some cases, destruction of innocent lives. We get what we deserve…good and hard, it appears.

If one seeks to find brilliance, with a heavy dose of wit, satirical acumen and intelligence today, there are modern day mensa’s of wisdom and waggishness to be found.

Jeffrey St. Clair at counterpuch.org provides tasty treats from his active gray cells on a regular basis.

And Riley Waggaman, managing editor over at Russia-Insider.com is one of this writers favorites. Quite like Mr. Mencken, his offerings provide laugh-out-loud belly laughs with his brilliant commentary on the ludicrous (and serious) events of the everyday.  (Full disclosure here, Russia-Insider will post a few of my writing efforts from time to time but that doesn’t take away from me being a fan of Mr. Waggaman, and also envious of his writing talents.)

And on a final note to all this silliness with Ms. Griffin, check out The Daily Mail’s recent article.  Half-way down the article, you’ll see a picture of Trump and Ms. Griffin, all smiles and embracing. WTH! Happier days (or something like that) eh?
