Pentagon tells Congress no sign Iran planned to attack US first, report says

Trump administration officials told the US Congress that there were no signs that Iran planned to attack the US before the US-Israeli strikes that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Reuters has reported.

In closed-door briefings, Pentagon officials told Congressional staff that Iran’s ballistic missiles and proxy forces posed an imminent threat to US interests, but they acknowledged that there was no intelligence suggesting that Tehran planned to attack US forces first, according to the news agency, which cited two people familiar with the matter.

The report casts doubt on earlier claims by Trump administration officials that there were indications that Tehran could “preemptively” attack US forces. – aljazeera.com
