Time for a review:

And of course, the above is not known by most because…

And all this then leads the thinking person to muse:

***
The books or the music in which we thought the beauty was located will betray us if we trust to them; it was not in them, it only came through them, and what came through them was longing….For they are not the thing itself; they are only the scent of a flower we have not found, the echo of a tune we have not heard, news from a country we have never yet visited.– C.S. Lewis

Today’s musical offering:
Debussy: Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune ∙ hr-Sinfonieorchester ∙ Alain Altinoglu
I see you and I share a regard for C.S. Lewis. His book ‘A Grief Observed’ helped me after my wife died, and I have since read other books by him. A comforting intellectual.

Yes, I too share that regard for CS Lewis as you do, and have also read his ‘A Grief Observed’. As it helped you after your wife died, it helped me after my younger brother died. So well said…’a comforting intellectual’. thanks for sharing your thoughts. Cheers!

I’m sorry about you brother. When a loved one dies, I think of that line from Hamlet: “There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.” In other words, you never know, one day it may all be resolved.

Thank you, Mich! Means a great deal to me, especially coming from you who have experienced such deep loses in your life. And that quote from Hamlet – I don’t remember it enough. It’s spot on! Thank you for sharing it. Hope you’ve enjoyed the Bach of late. That Netherlands Bach Society and what they put out each week is, well…don’t quite have the words but just tremendous! cheers!

Obviously a malfunction while under the influence. I was trying to say I listen to all the Bach pieces you post; I haven’t heard a lot of his choral compositions over the years so they are appreciated, albeit sad for me, at this time. Thank you Horatio.
