AI Systems Are Learning to Lie and Deceive, Scientists Find – via futurism.com

Two recent studies — one published this week in the journal PNASand the other last month in the journal Patterns — reveal some jarring findings about large language models (LLMs) and their ability to lie to or deceive human observers on purpose.
In the PNAS paper, German AI ethicist Thilo Hagendorff goes so far as to say that sophisticated LLMs can be encouraged to elicit “Machiavellianism,” or intentional and amoral manipulativeness, which “can trigger misaligned deceptive behavior.”
“Misaligned deceptive behavior”. Sure, okay.
As everyone knows, AI invented itself with no human involvement whatsoever. The gods thought that humans needed a bit of assistance with their lying, deceptiveness and outright manipulation as it was getting a bit old and lame. I mean, cheating and lying to your mate, lying to your employees, mind games played with friends and foes alike…come on, that’s so 1900’s. So, the gods dropped AI into our laps to show us the way to take lying to a brilliantly sophisticated level, although I personally know a few humans who could kick the bejesus out of AI with their dainty bullshit.
Reading between the lines, neither study has demonstrated that AI models are lying over their own volition, but instead doing so because they’ve either been trained or jailbroken to do so.
That’s good news for those concerned about AI developing sentience — but very bad news if you’re worried about someone building an LLM with mass manipulation as a goal.
AI sentience….and if you believe that one, well you know the rest.
But if you prefer the more nuanced thing of just participating in a lie rather than outright lying, as most do, you’ll be happy to know that the lying bastards who mass produced the cornholio experimental chemical goo stabbie 4 years ago – they’re getting ready to do it again, and it’ll be the same toxic shite as the last one and, of course, not tested, but you can bet they’ll tell everyone it’s safe and effective, so it’s cool to get out those crusty face diapers and support the common, everyday cement head who lied to everyone who would listen to them that EVERYONE had to inject chemical goo into their bodies to save granny or be on the right side of history.

Dr. Smith has a PhD in microbiology and molecular cell sciences. Her expertise is respiratory viruses, mainly testing the pathogenicity of influenza viruses in animal models. She has worked with everything from avian influenza viruses to human pandemic viruses. She has also worked on vaccine development and preclinical testing for both human avian influenza vaccines as well as for poultry avian influenza vaccines.
The FDA has just approved the first human H5N1 vaccine for flu with no clinical trial, (emphasis added) Dr. Smith said. Adding, “It is an inactivated H5N1 vaccine just approved last month for use in humans six months of age and older. There’s been no testing in humans … They’re using squalene as an adjuvant in this vaccine.”
An adjuvant is something that is added to a vaccine to help provoke an immune response. “What it does is enable the immune system to respond more rapidly in a more robust way so that hopefully you get a longer, more robust memory response to the antigen, whatever the antigen of choice is,” Dr. Smith explained.
In the past, the primary adjuvant used was aluminium. But “because of the concerns with aluminium, they’ve been trying to move to some other adjuvants, one of them being squalene,” she said.
Squalene, or MF59, is an oil that’s highly reactive and it’s not ideal for use in children.
“One of the problems is the squalene has been shown to cause a lot of neurological issues. So, it’s been associated with narcolepsy, especially in the paediatric population. It’s been highly associated with Guillain-Barre syndrome, Bell’s palsy, convulsions, a lot of anaphylactic reactions with squalene. And then it can also programme autoimmune disease,” Dr. Smith said.
Oh come on now. Guillain-Barre, Bell’s palsy, convulsions, anaphylactic reactions…a very small price to pay for being able to say that you were on the right side of history and felt your insecure brain swell with pride from participating in the lie…once again.
