It Is Never Gone

“It has been said, ‘time heals all wounds.’ I do not agree. The wounds remain. In time, the mind, protecting its sanity, covers them with scar tissue and the pain lessens. But it is never gone.” ― Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy

Our constant companion, in one form or another, is pain.

Physical illness, mental sufferings and anguish, heart break, poverty, homelessness, loneliness – the list is never ending.

We seek to escape pain in various way…all of which we are personally familiar with – some of us extremely familiar with it…others, maybe not quite so much.  The luck of the draw, maybe.

Our pain sometimes screams inside each of us, in ways that is manifested in a behavior that many would consider nutty, that is, until they might personally experience the pain we are going through.

The migraine will send the sufferer to bed in a darkened room. The cancer patient suffers in ways unimaginable to the somewhat healthy.  The Alzheimer’s patient forgets and is mostly forgotten, except from the love of those who love them unconditionally.  The homeless and poverty-stricken, almost completely ignored.

We seek the “sage” advice of those in white coats who have a host of chemical f**kery at their disposal to make us well, but never does. Healing, via what God has given all of us via herbs and organic food, mostly forgotten, are rarely mentioned.

The lonely become more lonely…the outcast more outcast.  The young are subjected to an artistry of bullshit that they might never overcome from demons masquerading as educators, government officials, administrators and others of official shittery.

But all this doesn’t originate in ourselves, for the most part.  This shittery of how it is, and how it should be, originates from a clusterfuck of nutjobs, psychopaths, media types and other assorted jackals who have made all this possible. And we sit on our hands and let it be.

Suffering, will always be with us. Yet, must it be so extreme?

What alleviates a portion of our suffering? It won’t be identity politics. It won’t be whether one believes in the left, the right insanity, or anything in between.

It will be what has always been…

The kind word; the heartfelt empathy from a friend or loved one. The dog who wags his/her backside when we enter the room; the quiet entry into the room our parents sit and sleep alone, in assisted living facilities  – extending our hand to our loved ones, wishing their sufferings might be lessened. The letter sent, the email exchanged and most importantly, the phone call or personal visit to those suffering makes a tiny portion right, of what a-holes have made wrong.

We put up with f**kery beyond belief each day from the corporate and government shysters, quietly thinking, it can’t get any worse – but it does.

And we wonder…how much more must we suffer.

It appears to be, how much more suffering will we allow.

Tonight’s musical offering:

Historians have long suspected that Beethoven suffered from more than one health problem, possibly including inflammatory bowel disease, Paget’s disease (abnormal bone destruction), liver disease, alcohol abuse, and kidney disease. As is widely known, Beethoven’s most often described ailment was deafness.

And yet…suffering complete deafness, along with all his other health problems…this is what he created…for all who suffer, which is us all.

  1. According to our music history prof, Beethoven’s deafness was due to an illness/disease which caused the skull to grow in thickness inward, thus squeezing the brain, and in Beethoven’s case, destroying the portion of the brain that dealt with hearing. This, of course, is info from almost a half-century ago. So I wouldn’t take it to the bank;-)

    Another excellent statement by you!

    1. Thanks, Sojourner… I have not heard of this regarding Beethoven, but it does make some sense. Mercy, how the man could compose one bar or measure, let alone what he did…well, I never cease to be amazed.
